Monodon Shrimp
Aptly named the “King of Prawns” or “Poor Man’s Lobster”, the beautifully-striped Monodon Shrimp is a restaurant favourite.
We also grow the MONODON shrimp. This shrimp is also known as the Giant Tiger Prawn, Asian Tiger Shrimp or Black Tiger Prawn because of the ‘tiger stripes’ on their shells and tails that turn bright orange-red on the barbeque. Its scientific name is Penaeus monodon. Tiger prawns can grow up to 25 to 30 cm, almost a third bigger than most shrimps. Their moist, succulent flesh owing to their high fat content has earned them the nickname, the “poor man’s lobster”.
